Safe and supportive environment

A number of requirements relate to providing a safe and supportive environment for students.

A registered non-government school has responsibilities under NSW legislation relating to  child protection.

Student welfare encompasses the mental, physical and emotional well-being of students. The provision of student welfare policies and programs is essential in developing a sense of self-worth and fostering personal development.

The use of distance education as a mode of delivery by a school does not abrogate the school's obligation to ensure that all of the registration requirements that are relevant to that mode of delivery are met. Additional policies and procedures must be in place to ensure the personal and social development of students undertaking distance education for all or a significant part of their courses of study.
